To allow the charcoal to "breathe" and protect the raw terracotta, we recommend adding a layer of coarse sand or small pebbles to the base of the censer. This provides the necessary airflow beneath the coal to sustain a steady combustion.

Thermal Regulation
Once the charcoal is lit and placed on the bed of sand, place one of the provided mica sheets between the glowing coal and your incense. This acts as a heat regulator, isolating the incense from the direct fire to prevent scorching and allow the subtle aromas to release slowly and purely, preserving the quality of your botanicals.

Handling & Safety
While the handle is designed for ease of movement, terracotta is a natural insulator and retains heat. Handle with care to avoid accidental burns and never leave a lit coal unattended. Allow the censer to cool completely before cleaning or removing the ash.

CLEANING
To maintain the matte finish, wipe the exterior with a dry, soft cloth or paper towel to remove dust or ash. Do not use soaps, detergents, or oils, as the porous clay will absorb these and may affect future burnings.
